Influence of Saline Pore Fluid on Soil Behavior during Evaporation

چکیده
Saline conditions govern soil behavior during evaporation, thereby affecting the water budget in semi-arid regions. This research examined effects of saline pore fluid on evaporation. The results indicated volumetric reductions about 5% for silty sand and 15% lean clay. evaporative flux decreased from 26 mg/m2∙s to 22 StageII, remained at a constant StageIII, 13 StageIV. air entry residual suction values were found be 5 kPa 100 kPa, respectively, total 5000 merged with matric near Stage II/Stage III boundary. swell–shrink curve (SSC) was J-shaped only void ratio decrease II. In contrast, clay 30 15 10 then 2000 II ranged 1000 6000 an average value 3500 kPa. SSC showed major II, marginal III, no IV. Under high demand, 180 StageIII 50 IV, whereas it 230 145 95 25 For both soils, loss six times higher than that under low demand.

Calculation of humidity during evaporation from soil
The relative humidity at the surface of a soil is calculated as a function of time from a realistic, exactly solvable model for unsaturated fluid flow. When the evaporation rate is constant, as in the atmosphere-controlled phase, the surface relative humidity suddenly drops at a particular time, even though the humidity–time function is differentiable. This sudden transition still occurs, but i...
متن کاملEstimating Evaporation Coefficient during Two-stage Evaporation from Soil Surfaces
Evaporation coefficient (KE) is defined as the ratio of actual evaporation over potential evaporation under the same atmospheric conditions. The use of KE provides an alternative means for evaluating soil moisture status and quantifying soil evaporation by reducing in situ measurements. However, little effort has been made to evaluate the estimation of KE over soil surfaces. In this study, a re...
متن کاملInfluence of prairie restoration on CT-measured soil pore characteristics.
Restored prairies are expected to improve soil physical properties, yet little is known about the extent of change to soil properties and how rapidly these changes take place. The objective of this study was to compare effects of prairie restoration on computed tomography (CT)-measured pore parameters. Undisturbed soil cores (76 mm diam. by 76 mm long) from native prairie (NP), restored prairie...
متن کاملInfluence of Microsprinkler Irrigation Amount on Water, Soil, and pH Profiles in a Coastal Saline Soil
Microsprinkler irrigation is a potential method to alleviate soil salinization. After conducting a homogeneous, highly saline, clayey, and coastal soil from the Bohai Gulf in northern China in a column experiment, the results show that the depth of the wetting front increased as the water amount applied increased, low-salinity and low-SAR enlarged after irrigation and water redistribution, and ...

expansive soils are considered a worldwide problem as they cause extensive damage tocivil engineering structures. an important characteristic of expansive soils is theirsusceptibility to volume change due to the phenomenon of wetting and drying. this paperpresets the effect of pore water quality on the swelling and shrinkage behavior of anexpansive soil during wetting and drying cycles. thirty ...
